His mother did, in fact, get up from her seat and depart the stadium shortly after that. But given how often she was doing it during the game, Rune argued in an interview with Eurosport that the order to quit was meant for someone else.
He remarked, “To start with, I didn’t tell my mother to leave the stadium.” “That isn’t the reason. It was a different individual. Thus, that is incorrect.Of course, it annoys me to be in my first Grand Slam quarterfinal and perform so poorly, especially in the opening set. I definitely didn’t strike the balls correctly. When you want something as badly as I do, that gets annoying.”
Rune continued in a social media post, saying, “I don’t send my mother away because I love her.” It helps when my mother or coach departs, so I don’t have two people to turn to when I’m upset. At some point, she also quit in opposition to Stefanos [Tsitsipas]. to make me feel comfortable. She is in charge, not me.”
“He must learn to control his emotions!” Corretja and Henman yelled at Rune as he entered the box.
“I also slipped away during the play against Stefanos Tsitsipas at one point,” his mother later said to the reporters. It can sometimes be simpler for Holger to turn to the coach as his only point of reference when he spends too much time off the field.”To ease his worry, I decided to do the same thing today. It being late, he was clearly exhausted, and I thought it could be helpful.”
After the game, Alex Corretja noted in the Eurosport Cube that Rune needs to “manage his emotions” more.
“I observed the mother frequently entering and exiting the court. She was seated to the left of his coach, then to the right, before departing and returning,” Corretja remarked.
He must study because, of course, he is so young. He must learn to regulate his feelings. He was conversing excessively with the box. He must maintain his equilibrium.”
After the game, Rune faced criticism as well for what appeared to be a chilly handshake with Ruud.
Nonetheless, Corretja thinks Rune has a promising future in the game and has garnered praise for his aggressive play style.
