Jerrod Johnson, the quarterback coach for the Houston Texans, will be interviewed again by the New Orleans Saints on Saturday in regards to their open offensive coordinator post, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. Johnson will meet in person with Saints management after interviewing for many offensive coordinator positions across the league, according to Rapoport.
Last Monday, New Orleans fired senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell, wide receiver coach Kodi Burns, and longtime offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael. Joel Thomas, the running back coach, left to pursue a similar job with the New York Giants.
The Texans’ first season with Jerrod Johnson as their quarterback coach just ended. Along with offensive coordinator Bobby Slowick, he oversaw rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud’s remarkable development as the team amassed an unexpected 10-7 record and won the AFC South.
The 35-year-old Johnson worked for the Minnesota Vikings as an assistant quarterback coach in 2022 and the Indianapolis Colts for two seasons as a quality control coach before coming to the Texans. Texas A&M quarterback Johnson finished his collegiate career with 58.6% of his passes for 8,011 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions in 35 starts.
A second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2009, Johnson was not selected in the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent time on the practice squads of six different NFL teams between 2011 and 2016 but did not see any action. Johnson also saw time in the CFL and UFL.
Here is the Saints updated list of remaining candidates that they have interviewed for their offensive coordinator role.
• Ronald Curry (age 44, QB coach – Saints)
• Zac Robinson (39, QB coach – Rams)
• Jerrod Johnson (44, QB coach – Texans)

The Saints also spoke to former Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and Bengals QB coach Dan Pitcher. Waldron accepted the same position with the Chicago Bears, while Pitcher was promoted to offensive coordinator for Cincinnati.
