    WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite his contract expiring in June, the Toffees have confirmed that the former England international will stay with the team after next month.

Dele is still recovering from a groin injury, and Everton will keep him out of the sidelines as they try to make sure his recovery isn’t hampered by his contract predicament.

    WHAT EVERTON SAID

“Dele’s contract is coming to an end, but our medical team will continue to support him while he completes the intensive rehabilitation programme he is currently undergoing following the operation he had earlier this year,” director of football Kevin Thelwell said in a statement made public by the club.

“Sean and I both feel it’s critical that at this crucial juncture in Dele’s recovery, his contract situation should not interfere with his rehabilitation.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Dele experienced a setback in his injury return earlier in 2024, therefore he hasn’t played for Everton this season. After it was first anticipated that the former Tottenham Hotspur star would make a comeback during the 2023–2024 campaign, the player underwent surgery in January to address the groin condition.

About 15 months ago, when playing for Besiktas in Turkey, the midfield player suffered a hip injury that required surgery to fix.

When asked about his future at Goodison Park after his contract ends, Everton manager Sean Dyche responded, “We’ll see.” My primary goal, which I’ve spoken with him incessantly, is just to get him back on the field, where he can play, smile, and enjoy himself.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR DELE?

As said before, after surgery, Dele will now continue his protracted recuperation at Everton. He has stated his goals to return to playing at the greatest level in the future, but he must first get back in shape.

Everton will probably evaluate his options after his recuperation is complete.
