Jannik Sinner is like the same version of Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams’ ex-coach
Rennae Stubbs, the former coach of Serena Williams, has hypothesized that Jannik Sinner is the younger incarnation of Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one player.
After Sinner’s successful opening to the 2024 season, which included an Australian Open triumph, Stubbs said these things. In the championship match, the Italian emerged victorious over Daniil Medvedev.
He overcame Karen Khachanov, Andrey Rublev, Sebastian Baez, Jesper De Jong, Botic van de Zandschulp, and Djokovic, the reigning champion, en route to the title match.
After that, Sinner continued to play well at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam. To win his second title of the season, he defeated Tallon Griekspoor, Van de Zandschulp, Gael Monfils, Milos Raonic (W/O), and Alex de Minaur. He overthrew Medvedev by winning the ATP 500 tournament and rising to a career-high ranking of World No. 3.
In an interview with Andrea Petkovic for the most recent episode of Racquet’s Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, Stubbs asserted that Jannik Sinner has greater potential than Carlos Alcaraz. She also gave the Italian’s coach, Darren Cahill, credit for improving some of his protégé’s skills.
Stubbs stated, I believe [Jannik] Sinner has more upside [than Carl0s Alcaraz] (at 47:48). He is nailing the dropshot, but I believe he can do better. He is doing a wonderful job with his forehand dropshot, which has even earned him a few huge points against the top player in tennis, Alex de Minaur.
He made that play against him on a few pivotal moments and breakaways. His online skills are, in my opinion, getting better. In that area, Darren [Cahill] had a significant impact. Thus, I believe he is improving both his slicing backhand and dropshots. The Australian went on, That’s a work in progress.
