Holger Rune to Play More Events Without Mother’s Presence In Recent Team Shake-Up
The ongoing changes in Holger Rune’s team continue, as the Dane announced that his mother will now only accompany him to certain tournaments.
In a recent TV2 interview, Rune expressed his belief that it’s ‘good’ for the couple to not attend every event together. Anke Rune is her son’s manager and, until recently, oversaw his publicity arrangements. IMG now manages Rune’s media engagements.
Anke’s absence from Rune’s player’s box raised concerns in Rotterdam this week. She also did not attend the UTS event in Oslo that took place last weekend.
“It’s a little random. She will attend some tournaments but not all of them. She is still on the phone frequently, and we communicate before and after games. So she’s an important part of my squad, and I enjoy having her at my side.” Said Rune.
“It’s different, of course, but I believe it’s healthy to hold some tournaments together and some separately.”He added.
Since the beginning of the season, the 20-year-old has quit training with Roger Federer’s previous instructors, Severin Luthi and Boris Becker, following just brief periods with both. Kenneth Carlsen, his fellow countryman, is currently coaching him.
On the court, Rune was eliminated from the Rotterdam Open on Thursday, falling in three sets against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko in the second round.
After the Australian Open, this is his second tournament of the year in which he has failed to win consecutive matches.
He did, however, make it to the final of the Brisbane International and the semi-finals of the Montpellier tournament before retiring due to a minor injury.
“I believe it was a bit of an up-and-down match. I found a decent level in the second set that I believe I can improve upon.”He said this after his defeat against Shevchenko.
“This week, we started working pretty well again. So I believe Brisbane had a good week, and I think this week has been extremely good, even if the results don’t show it.”
Rune will next head to Mexico to compete in the Los Cabos Open.
