Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph will not take a hit to his wallet for his controversial hit on Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that while Joseph will be fined for actions relating to the game, the hit on Higbee was deemed legal and he would not have any further action.

The hit caused Higbee to tear his ACL, and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford derided it on a hot mic during the game, calling it “dirty as f–k.”

Higbee was clearly removed from the game by the hit; Detroit went on to win 24-23. As the No. 2 seeded Dallas Cowboys lost their Wild Card match, the Lions won their first playoff game since 1991 and earned a second home game.

Following a safety hit by Joseph in recent weeks, tight end T.J. Hockenson of the Vikings tore both his ACL and MCL in December, making him the second player to sustain a serious injury.

Although his play has drawn criticism from others, Dan Campbell, the head coach, and his teammates have stood by him, with Campbell stating that the play was “how we play football here.”

Yesterday’s Divisional Round playoff game featured Joseph and the Lions against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
