Former professional boxer Mike Tyson, 57, suffered a medical scare two months before his comeback fight against social media star Jake Paul.
Iron Mike will face the social media celebrity on July 20th at the 80,000-capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Netflix will broadcast the fight, marking the platform’s first foray into live boxing.
In the co-main event, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will face off. The Irish star famously defeated the Puerto Rican two years ago in New York in one of the biggest battles in women’s boxing history.
Tyson impressed fans during a recent meet-and-greet in Virginia by displaying his six-pack and amazing physique. Since the fight’s confirmation, the former professional boxer has posted multiple videos of himself training for his match with the YouTuber.
Tyson, who would be 58 by the time the fight goes place, experienced a medical issue on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday, according to In Touch magazine.
The former heavyweight world champion grew nauseated and disoriented – which caused airline officials to ask passengers on board if there was a doctor to provide aid.
Paramedics boarded the jet, which had already been delayed by two hours in Miami, when it arrived in Los Angeles to provide treatment.
According to an eyewitness, there was a 25-minute wait at LAX airport as paramedics treated the 57-year-old.
“Mike had a medical problem on the plane, so paramedics boarded,” the eyewitness stated. “Before the paramedics arrived, the flight made an announcement requesting for a doctor, which appeared on everyone’s screens.
“Then our screens claimed medical assistance was required and repeated the same thing. He was in first class, but we were near the exit row and the stewardess was really friendly.
“They urged us to remain on the plane and landed so that paramedics could enter. She stated something like, “He’s a very important passenger, so we want to make sure he’s okay.” I knew it was him, so I just mouthed ‘Mike Tyson,’ and she nodded yes.”
According to The New York Post, Tyson’s spokeswoman stated that he ‘felt disoriented after suffering an ulcer flare-up’ 30 minutes before the jet was to land.
The spokeswoman downplayed the event and stated that the American is ‘doing great’ after being checked up by airport medical personnel.
“Fortunately, Mr. Tyson is doing well,” Tyson’s agents told The New York Post. “He became nauseated and dizzy 30 minutes before arriving as a result of an ulcer flare up. He appreciates the medical team who assisted him.”
His opponent, Paul, appeared to criticize the former professional boxer on social media. In a post on X, then known as Twitter, the ‘Problem Child’ wrote: “You love to make s**t up before knowing the truth for clicks and likes. “Nothing changed.
