As a cricket team, the West Indies has stagnated over the years, winning difficult matches before sliding to new lows. Their unpredictability is the one constant about them.

In a team sport, the Head Coach can play an important part in a player’s growth by addressing their weaknesses so that they can give their all when it counts. However, unfortunately, that did not happen for the Caribbean side, while any fiasco in team sports would be unfair.

The Australian cricket squad of the late 1990s and early 2000s achieved remarkable success under coach John Buchanan, who had never played a test match for Australia. Despite the fact that critics will argue that the team’s success was mostly attributable to the quality of its players, it is also possible to argue that he influenced the players to maximize their talent.

Simmons departed his post as Ireland’s head coach in 2015 to become the West Indies’ head coach, having guiding Ireland to success in world cricket since taking over in April 2007.

In 2016, he guided the West Indies to their historic second T20 World Cup victory in India. He deserves all of our respect for that.

However, immediately after the T20 World Cup success, the WICB terminated him due to “culture and strategic differences”

In March 2019, the new board reappointed Simmons as West Indies cricket head coach after Ricky Skerritt replaced controversial Dave Cameroon as president of the WICB. Everyone believed that something positive would come to Windies cricket.

Gayle, Pollard, and Russell were not picked in the team because Cameroon was against them. However, the new board and coach endorsed their participation.
