‌WBC Names Joshua Mandatory Challenger For Winner Of Tyson Vs Usyk
Anthony Joshua would be “accepted” to battle Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight belt, according to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.
On May 18, Fury and Usyk will fight for all the titles in Saudi Arabia. They are expected to rematch later in the year. England’s Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) was waiting patiently for his opportunity during this time. He had emerged victorious from his second-round knockout victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, and the winner will square up against one of the top two in the division.
Sulaiman said that nothing would stop Joshua from running into Usyk or Fury in the future. A request for sanction to fight for the undisputed was made to the WBC. According to media accounts, Sulaiman stated, “We approved the rematch they asked for, and the WBC accepted that sanction.”
“But we would definitely allow the winner to face Joshua if it had nothing to do with a contract or a promotion. The WBC has given this issue a lot of attention. Thus, we have cleared the way entirely for the undisputed, a rematch, and another bout of that caliber,” he continued.
He went on, “At this point, the WBC is extremely willing to support the undefeated champion taking on the matches that the public wants to watch.”
Joshua made another statement during the evening by decisively stopping Ngannou three times, capping off the MMA star’s incredible boxing debut against Fury. The former unified heavyweight champion is still vying for a chance to win a world title after Usyk cost him those titles. It was his third straight stoppage triumph.
It was astounding. He had the appearance of a global champion; he was strong, decisive, and commanding. Sulaima expressed her happiness and pride in him.
