After defeating Otto Wallin in his previous bout in December and Robert Helenius in August 2023, this was Joshua’s third straight knockout victory. Ngannou made his professional debut against Tyson Fury just two months before that show; in that bout, the 37-year-old managed to knock down the long-standing heavyweight champion but ultimately lost by split decision.

With his victory over Ngannou, Joshua has prepared himself to face the victor of the forthcoming Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk bout. Soon after defeating the Cameroonian in Saudi Arabia, he even predicted the outcome of the next bout.

What comes next for Ngannou, who is already 0-2 in boxing, is unknown. The heavyweight found Joshua’s assault to be too much to bear, losing three times in the first two rounds, the third being the final straw that sealed the deal. The boxer, who was born in Cameroon, started a post with the words “Sorry people, I let you all down.” He then continued with the simple statement, “Today was a bad day in the office but tomorrow will be another day,” to demonstrate his continued confidence for any future fights.

Following back-to-back losses to two of the top names in the industry, fans will be curious to see where he goes from here. Though his first performance suggested Ngannou could compete with some of the best heavyweights in the business, Joshua and Fury were probably too much for a man switching from one combat sport to another.
