Five Facts About Anthony Lynn You Should Know
Anthony Lynn was named the 16th head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday. The following five facts regarding the new head coach should be known:
Super Bowl Champion: After a stellar career at Texas Tech when he ran for 1,911 yards and 17 touchdowns, Lynn played six seasons in the NFL before going into coaching.
He spent six years in the league, making 83 appearances for the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.
Lynn’s playing career peaked in 1997–1998, when he assisted the Broncos in winning consecutive Super Bowl championships.
The Coaching Tree: Lynn gained knowledge from some of the best head coaches in the league while pursuing the top position with the Bolts.
His first opportunity came from Mike Shanahan, who helped the Broncos go from being a player to a coach in 2000–02.
Following his tenure in Denver as an offensive and special teams assistant, Jack Del Rio offered Lynn his first opportunity as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ running backs coach.
Subsequently, he worked in the same capacity for the Dallas Cowboys, the Cleveland Browns, Rex Ryan, the New York Jets, and the Buffalo Bills.
Ground and Pound: Lynn has coached football for 17 years and has a solid reputation as a football running back.
His teams are consistently among the top in the NFL, and they have been in Buffalo for the last two years.
In terms of running yards (2,630 in 2016 and 2,432 in 2015), rushing touchdowns (29 in 2016 and 19 in 2015), and average yards per carry (5.3 in 2016 and 4.8 in 2015), the Bills dominated the league each season.
