Sad news: Lion’s QB Jared Goff: ‘I loved it here, had unforgetable memories. But its time to…

Detroit Lions

It’s football town in Detroit. And nobody is more aware of that than quarterback Jarred Goff of the Detroit Lions.

The Motor City developed a Goff fever after Goff led the Lions to their first NFC North championship in thirty years and their first playoff victory or victories in thirty-two years. ‘JAR-ED GOFF’ chants could be heard throughout Michigan.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Goff stated, “I’ve had a ton of fun winning in this city, winning for these fans,” as the Lions started their optional summer practices this week in Allen Park. The amount of people who have been incredibly sincere about winning here—even though we didn’t win the Super Bowl—and about winning the playoff game and the playoffs, and how heartfelt they’ve been saying, “thank you,” and all that, has been really cool to witness this offseason.

“This place is clearly filled with enthusiastic people, and that has been the most fulfilling aspect. playing here for the incredibly dedicated fan base and the city, and being able to contribute to it.”

Goff hopes to continue being a part of it here in Detroit for the time being.

At the Annual League Meetings last month, Brad Holmes, the general manager of the Lions, stated that he and the representation of quarterback quarterback Jared Goff had discussed a long-term contract extension. Goff is entering the final year of a four-year, $134 million contract he signed with the Rams prior to being moved to Detroit in 2021.

Goff mentioned on Tuesday that his group and the Lions had conversations, but he did not elaborate.

The previous season, he led the Lions to the NFC Championship Game, where they were defeated 34–31 by San Francisco. He was second in the NFL in passing yards (4,575), fourth in touchdown passes (30), and in the top 10 in passer rating (97.9). Last year, Goff participated in all 20 games without missing a single snap owing to injury, completing 67.3 percent of his passes. With 69 completions of 20 yards or more, he trailed only the 49ers’ Brock Purdy and the Bucs’ Baker Mayfield in touchdown throws of 20 yards or more (12).

“The last three years have been really fun,” Goff stated. “Not always easy, but fun and hard and I’ve been surrounded by a lot of good teammates and coaches that have helped me realize my potential and hopefully there’s a lot more there.”

Goff is welcomed as one of Detroit’s own. He adores this place and believes that his three seasons here have improved both him as a player and as a person.

“I love it here and I want to be here a long time,” he stated. “Playing in front of these supporters has been incredibly special. having been able to offer a winning culture over the past fifteen months or so. While it has been enjoyable to watch and participate in their experience, we are by no means content.”
