Dave Ragone will replace Zac Robinson on Sean McVay’s staff as the new quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams. This offseason, the two simply traded jobs as Robinson assumed Ragone’s position as offensive coordinator for the Falcons.

Having been a quarterback in both college and the NFL, Ragone is a perfect fit as a coach. In 2006, he even spent a brief time playing with the Rams.

Discover six interesting facts about Ragone, the new quarterbacks coach for the Rams.

He was in the same draft class as Andre Johnson

The Rams now have two coaches on their staff: one was drafted in the same class as Andre Johnson (Ragone), and the other defeated Calvin Johnson for the title of high school player of the year (McVay). The Texans selected Ragone at No. 88 overall, 85 choices after selecting Johnson, who is now a Hall of Famer, in the first round of the draft.Ragone was a three-year starter as a college quarterback at Louisville, where he passed for 8,564 yards, 74 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. Although he only made two starts in his NFL career (both against the Texans in 2003), he was a highly promising prospect who was selected in the third round after winning three times as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, the Louisville Ring of Honor inducted him.

He won NFL Europe’s Offensive MVP award in 2005

Ragone spent three seasons with the Texans from 2003 to 2005 before spending one season with the Berlin Thunder in the NFL Europe. He was the league’s Offensive MVP that year and captained the Thunder to the XIII World Bowl, where they were defeated 27–21 by the Admirals.

With 1,746 passing yards and 13 touchdown passes in 2005, Ragone has the fewest interceptions in league history with only two in 251 pass attempts. With Ragone at quarterback that season, Berlin finished 7-3.

He was on the Rams’ roster for 3 months in 2006

Unbelievable as it may seem, Ragone played quarterback for the Rams in 2006. He was cut on September 2, right before the season started, after being dealt by the Bengals to the Rams on June 20. He then played the offseason with St. Louis.

Ragone did don the horns for a few months in St. Louis, but it was only a temporary stay.
