Everton’s brief period with Carlo Ancelotti in charge feels like a fever dream at this point.

After all, Sean Dyche was forced to pick up the pieces after Rafael Benitez quickly overthrew all of his hard work, quickly replacing the highs of witnessing him supervise James Rodriguez masterclasses at Goodison Park.

Year after year, he struggles to steer this financially wrecked institution toward safety, yet he perseveres heroically.

Simon Jordan has now made an attempt to clarify why Ancelotti accepted the position in the first place.

Simon Jordan makes Everton and Arsenal manager claim

During their live talkSPORT appearance earlier today (01/05, 10:40 am), the three experts expressed their admiration for Ancelotti and his approach to managing.

They still don’t understand, though, how Everton could have convinced him to join their sinking ship. Neither do many others.

New Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti (C) stands between Everton Chief Executive Marcel Brands (L) and Everton owner Farhad Moshiri during the Premie...

First theorizing about Farhad Moshiri’s sales pitch, Jim White wrote: “I can second guess the conversation he had with Moshiri, he would say to Moshiri, ‘Yeah, alright, what you’re offering me is very attractive.” Everton? Yes, I will carry it out. But when Real Madrid entered the picture, that is exactly what took place.

His own theories as to why he might have moved: “I believe he chose Everton over Arsenal because Everton made a higher financial offer to him.” That, in my opinion, was Ancelotti’s motivation for moving to Everton to oversee the team with his son.

“And I’m not sure that is something to be greatly admired if that was the criteria Carlo Ancelotti used to determine his career path at the time.” Nevertheless, if you look at his recent record, Everton stands out among the others.

You’re talking about him leading teams like Everton, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Napoli—who were formidable in Italian football—and Paris Saint-Germain, too.

Carlo Ancelotti was the right appointment at the wrong time for Everton

It’s excruciatingly fascinating to think about what Ancelotti may have been able to accomplish at Goodison Park with the limitless money that players like Ronald Koeman and Marco Silva were instead trusted with, had Everton signed him at the beginning of Moshiri’s reign.

Ultimately, with James Rodriguez and Allan joining the team in the summer of 2020, we saw the caliber of players the great Italian could lure into the team on a relatively small budget.

But this is a thinking exercise that will only hurt you because a man of his caliber could only have been caught by the Toffees because he was between jobs.

He was without a job after being abruptly ousted from his Napoli position. Managers such as Thomas Tuchel, Hansi Flick, and Zinedine Zidane had the top positions at Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain.

In the meantime, it’s important to remember that Koeman, 64, was extremely busy winning more trophies with the aforementioned German powerhouses when Everton originally hired him.

He probably wasn’t even persuaded to explore Merseyside until he was presented with a large cash incentive.

All of this is speculative, but it’s worth mentioning in light of his brief and contentious departure in 2021.
