For years now, Everton’s bargaining position has been constantly dictated by their financial turmoil.

A lack of defense and an unwillingness to pay have resulted in the sale of players like Anthony Gordon and Richarlison with little prospect in their stead.

And they thought the worst would happen again when Kevin Thelwell addressed the crowd earlier this year.

When the football director alerted Evertonians to the possibility of significant sales, everyone’s eyes turned to Jarrad Branthwaite, Madou Onana, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But the club has now taken a step that has improved their negotiating position in relation to all three of these talents.

Everton escapes the June 30th PSR deadline

After all, getting through June without any major sales speaks volumes for their newfound stability and bargaining power.

June 30th marked an unofficial deadline day mid-way through the summer, as it was the end of the financial year.

Thus, everything was significant in terms of PSR.

Many clubs had to make sales before then, which is why there weren’t many acquisitions available, and Everton almost bought Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United.

This explains why Branthwaite was the target of a ridiculous bid from Manchester United, which was quickly turned down.

Now that this day has passed, they find themselves in a stronger financial position than before.

Furthermore, Sean Dyche and Thelwell can no longer be held hostage by a set of laws that openly favor those who are already at the top of the Premier League, even though their opponents will now also have more money to spend.

They must sell for a staggering amount if they are to sell now.

Everton have new Jarrad Branthwaite bargaining position

Now that this day has passed, Everton can present Manchester United with two choices.

They would pay a tantalizing £75 million in the first, giving Thelwell an enormous treasure trove with which to perhaps reinvest in fresh talent this summer.

It would be unfortunate to see him go, but it’s frequently difficult to ignore someone with his stature.

Alternatively, the Toffees could maintain their present position and decline to sell him completely.
