Green Bay Packers NFL Draft 2024 guide: Picks, predictions and key…

The best possible trade piece is a Green Bay Packers player.

Although they most likely aren’t planning to cut any key players right now, the Green Bay Packers may have to take this into consideration in light of their financial situation.

The Packers may have to make a difficult decision about defensive tackle Kenny Clark, who is about to enter the final year of his contract, according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.

Knox points out that the market for defensive tackles is booming and mentions Derrick Brown of the Carolina Panthers, who recently signed a four-year, $96 million deal extension.

This might complicate matters for Green Bay, which also needs to consider Jordan Love’s extension as quarterback and the possibility of having to pay some of its young wide receivers in the future.

Would Clark cost the Packers a fortune

According to Knox, Green Bay might think about transferring Clark to a team that passed on a defensive line prospect following the NFL Draft. He mentions the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns as potential destinations, despite the Cowboys’ own salary cap concerns.

After playing in every game in 2023 and recording 44 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles en way to his third Pro Bowl berth, Clark is coming off of that year.

The Packers chose the 28-year-old with the 27th overall choice of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played NCAA football at UCLA.

Clark might wind up becoming a trade candidate since Green Bay might be reluctant to offer him a lucrative long-term contract given his advanced age.

However, the Packers are also attempting to win right now, so they might just decide to keep Clark around until 2024.

NFL Draft 2024 “The Beast” Guide: Player rankings and scouting reports by Dane Brugler

Concerning the Packers

• Matt LaFleur, the team’s head coach (sixth season)
• Previous year’s score: 9–8

With the start of the Jordan Love era, the Packers’ offense was expected to undergo more of a rebuilding year. However, Green Bay’s rookie quarterback led the team to a Divisional Round trip and a close loss to the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers. The Packers are well-positioned to contend for the Super Bowl next season with most of their offense from the previous campaign returning, a new defensive coordinator in Jeff Hafley, two high-profile free-agent signings in safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs, and five picks in the first 91 picks.

Packers’ essential positions

Safety: Although the Packers made a significant free agency investment in McKinney, they still require a second starting safety after the team’s top two picks from the previous campaign signed free agents. Since general manager Brian Gutekunst stated during the league meetings that he would rather have a younger player partner with McKinney who is playing his best football yet, it seems more likely that Green Bay will sign a veteran free agent at the position rather than add a second starter early in the draft (or through second-year safety Anthony Johnson Jr.).

Inside linebacker: Gutekunst stated that the Packers were “very thin” at inside linebacker during the NFL Scouting Combine last month. Since then, they have re-signed Eric Wilson and Kristian Welch to the special teams and dismissed De’Vondre Campbell. Isaiah McDuffie playing meaningful snaps in 2024 makes Gutekunst feel “very good,” but the Packers need additional bodies at the position and possibly even another player who can start for Hafley.

Offensive tackle: After David Bakhtiari sustained a season-ending injury in Week 1, the Packers appear confident in their selection of Rasheed Walker, a 2022 seventh-round pick, to fill in for Love. Although the odds are probably against him starting there again in 2024, the Packers will recruit another offensive tackle to push him and, in the worst case scenario, offer depth at the position following the free agent signing of swing lineman Josh Nijman by the Carolina Panthers.

Packer’s previous five best selections

2023: Leading EdgeNo. 13 Lukas Van Ness Van Ness had four sacks, eight tackles for loss, and one pass defensed in just under thirty-three percent of the offensive snaps for the Packers. Like they did with Rashan Gary, who they selected with the 12th overall pick in 2019, the Packers prefer to develop their young edge rushers gradually.

2022: No. 22, No. 28: ILB Quay Walker, DL Devonte Wyatt The Packers doubled up on Georgia defenders with an extra first-round pick from the Davante Adams trade. These players have grown into key components of Hafley’s anticipated overhaul of the defense in 2024.

CB Eric Stokes, No. 29 in 2021 — After having a strong debut season in 2021, Stokes struggled in the early half of 2022 before sustaining a foot injury that ended his season. Due to many injuries, he hasn’t played much since and is going into a contract year with little hope.

2020: No. 26 quarterback Jordan Love Love, who emerged as a major player in the league in 2023, is set to receive a substantial contract extension this offseason. The Packers are hoping that they have selected the quarterback who will lead the team for the next ten or more years.

2019: OLB No. 12, No. 21, Rashan Gary, S. Darnell Savage Jr. Gary is a pillar of Green Bay’s defense and was committed to a long-term contract deal last season. Savage, on the other hand, left the Packers following a lackluster season and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars this month.
