Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, says the team is still working hard behind the scenes to bring in a striker.
The only available striker for the Blues is Kayden Jackson, as George Hirst is out due to hamstring surgery, Dane Scarlett has been called back by Tottenham, and Freddie Ladapo has been loaned out to Charlton.
There are just eight days remaining in the transfer window after attempts to sign Jay Stansfield (Fulham), Sam Gallagher (Blackburn), and Kieffer Moore (Bournemouth) all failed.
McKenna stated, “I’ll catch up with (chief executive) Mark (Ashton) in the morning,” following the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Leicester City last night, which saw them retake second place in the Championship table.
“Over the past three days, this game has consumed all of my attention. Look, the club is working extremely hard within the constraints we have, and we know what positions we want to add to. We also have targets.
“I know they’re going to work really hard to improve the squad and we feel like we need to do that just to stay competitive in this really tough league.”
The full-back, Brandon Williams, recently returned to parent club Manchester United for a “medical assessment.” The Blues manager gave an update on Williams in the interim.
“He’s still in Manchester, where their medical staff is seeing to him. We don’t yet have a firm timeline for when or if he will rejoin us,” McKenna stated.
“He’s demonstrated in a brief period of time here that he can be a really excellent player at this level if he’s healthy. But it’s been a long since he was that.
“The hope is now he can get back at that level and join us for the later stages of the season, but we’re not sure if that will be the case.”
