Breaking news: Ben Shelton’s coach/father, Bryan Shelton, angers his son by making ‘shocking’ Jannik Sinner admission after…

The Italian is now 15-0 on the year. His victory over Shelton was also the 150th hard-court win of his career.

Ben Shelton’s coach, who also doubles as his father, sent shockwaves to the Tenis World when he praised jannik sinner and said the Italian Tenis star and world no.4 is “a pure force of nature” and he doesn’t see any one stopping him any time soon.

Tuesday night at Indian Wells, Ben Shelton gave Jannik Sinner a lot of trouble in the opening set of their fourth-round match. However, the Italian player managed to maintain his unbeaten record for 2024, defeating the American 7-6 (4), 6-1, to advance to the Masters 1000 event quarterfinals.

Last fall, the two had split their only career meetings, with Sinner exacting revenge at the ATP 500 stop in Vienna and Shelton emerging victorious at the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai.

Sinner remarked after the game, “I know there’s not so much rhythm playing against him, but I think I can be really proud about how I played.” In addition, there was some wind, which did not help matters much, but I made an effort to remain upbeat.

There were some difficult moments, particularly in the opening set, which I’m glad I prevailed in. The second set, I obviously got off to a really good start, which boosted my confidence.

Apart from winning the Australian Open 7-0, Rotterdam 5-0, and Indian Wells 3-0 thus far this year, Sinner is currently 15-0 overall. He has also won his last three matches in 2023, bringing his current winning streak to 18 games. In the Open Era, it’s the longest winning run at the tour level for an Italian male.

Furthermore, Sinner’s triumph over Shelton on Tuesday night marked his 150th career victory on a hard court. The 22-year-old is the first male to accomplish that feat who was born in the 2000s.

Sinner will face giant-killer Jiri Lehecka next.

Tuesday night in tennis paradise, Sinner was the first to bleed, breaking for 3-2. He would hold onto that break until he served to win the set at 5-4, and he even raised the possibility of a set point at 40-30. At that moment, Shelton showed his true colors. He not only fought off the set point but also rallied a few minutes later to tie the game at five points apiece. He then dug himself out of a 0–40 deficit to hold for six points.

The set went to a tie-break thanks to Sinner’s hold, and Shelton’s backhand brought the score to 4-all after Sinner had taken a double mini-break lead at 4-1.

However, the Italian took complete command of the match after that, winning the first set in 68 minutes with a string of three consecutive points, and then winning the second set in just 30 minutes. And the stats supported the narrative: at the conclusion of the game, Sinner had 17 wins to just 11 unforced errors, while Shelton had 14 winners to 35 unforced errors.

Jiri Lehecka, ranked 32nd, will be waiting for the No. 3 seed Sinner in the quarterfinals. Lehecka defeated No. 11 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4 in the fourth round on Tuesday after upsetting No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev in the third round.

Sinner and Lehecka will be meeting for the first time at the tour level. In their previous meeting, which took place in 2019 at a Challenger on clay in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Sinner prevailed 6-4, 6-2. At the time, the Czech was not even ranked; the Italian was ranked 298th.
