Sean McVay of the Rams Operates Differently From Other NFL Coaches

The owner of the Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Blank, praised Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay for the depth of his coaching staff, even though McVay frequently had to change his top coaches.

Due to the fact that five of his assistants have gone on to become head coaches in the NFL, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is no stranger to replacing holes on his coaching staff.

Because of this, McVay has had to constantly replenish the coaching staff with talent. Fortunately, he has largely been successful in this endeavor, as Los Angeles has qualified for the postseason in five of his seven seasons as head coach.

A benefit of the Rams’ large-scale coaching staff turnover? Other companies, including McVay, general manager Les Snead, and everyone in between, are paying attention to the caliber of employees being housed in Los Angeles.

When the Atlanta Falcons appointed former Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their new head coach, this was once again demonstrated to be accurate.

Inglewood, California, USA; September 17, 2023 During the second half of the Los Angeles Rams’ game at SoFi Stadium against the San Francisco 49ers, head coach Sean McVay stands next to defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

From 2015 until 2020, when Morris served as an assistant coach and, in his final season, an interim head coach, Falcons owner Arthur Blank collaborated with Morris.

Blank chose Arthur Smith over Morris when it came to the head coaching position at the time. Blank fired Smith on January 7, and following a comprehensive 14-candidate search, Morris returned to Atlanta.

What, therefore, has made Morris more qualified for the position than he was three years ago?

Speaking on February 9, Blank claimed that Morris’ time in Los Angeles, where he worked in a coaching setup and climate distinct from most other teams, is the reason behind it.

Morris’ development was clear, and Blank believes McVay should get a lot of credit for supporting it.

According to Blank, Sean McVay operates differently than a lot of other coaches. Morris learned a lot from (The Rams’) coaching style, setup, how they promote from within, and how they move coaches about in a much more lateral approach.

Blank continued, saying that Morris, having studied under McVay, came back to Atlanta with a more solid strategy on how to prepare for and develop coaching staffs when departures are likely.

But there’s more still.

Morris used the word collaborate in some version about fifteen times in his opening press conference on February 5. He saw it as being essential to creating a long-term winner.
