As the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, Sean McVay has watched seven drafts, but he has never selected in the first round. Every year, they either moved back out of the first round in order to obtain picks, or they traded picks to get veterans like Jalen Ramsey, Brandin Cooks, and Matthew Stafford.

One year prior to McVay’s arrival, in 2016, the Rams made their last Round 1 selection when they traded up to No. 1 overall for Jared Goff.

The Rams are expected to select 19th overall this year, but that position may change by the time the first round starts on April 25. Les Snead is notorious for trading his selections, so it’s likely that he will trade out of the first round once more or exchange No. 19 for a tried and true veteran.

Snead stated that it is “too early to tell” if the Rams will really use that pick in the first round during a conference call with reporters on Friday.

It makes sense that the Rams would trade back to get more picks, like they did the previous year, given they have a number of openings to fill on their roster, particularly if they decide not to re-sign many of their pending free agents.

Alternatively, they might remain steadfast and select a quarterback, cornerback, or edge rusher in the first round, considering options beyond Matthew Stafford.

Snead and the Rams ought to have it all on the table.
