GOOD NEWS: Orlando Pirates were designated as a new team in…..

Sekhukhune targets the past in opposition to pirates.

In the DStv Premiership on Saturday, Sekhukhune United will play host to the hot Orlando Pirates in an attempt to break the club record for consecutive league victories.

After four league victories, Sekhukhune have soared to the top of the table, matching the club record in their very brief existence.
They are now in the running for an unexpected second-place finish this season, but they will probably need to beat the Pirates five times in a row to accomplish that.

Their purple patch has been expertly executed by coach Lehlohonolo Seema, who has led them to victories against Richards Bay (3-1) and Royal AM (1-0) at home and Lamontville Golden Arrows (1-0) and Moroka Swallows (4-1) away.

The Pirates, who are currently three points ahead of Sekhukhune in the league and in second place, may not have had the most difficult schedule, but this one will be very different.

But Sekhukhune will surpass their opponents on goal differential if they win.

The only other time Sekhukhune won four straight league games was in January 2023, when they triumphed against Kaizer Chiefs (1-0) and Stellenbosch FC (1-0) away, as well as Marumo Gallants (3-2) and Swallows (1-0) at home.

A 2-0 setback on the road against Mamelodi Sundowns put a stop to that streak.

In their seven prior games with the Pirates, Sekhukhune had only one victory—a 2-0 triumph at home in October 2022.

The Pirates have defeated the Limpopo club five times overall, having won the last three, including the Nedbank Cup final from the previous season.
