Tottenham dealt major injury blow as Pape Matar Sarr leaves pitch in tears vs Bournemouth

Pape Matar Sarr left the game after scoring for Spurs against Bournemouth due to injury

On New Year’s Eve, Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr was substituted off the field after just thirty minutes of their home match against Bournemouth. Only twenty minutes after the score, the Senegalese international who had opened the scoring was taken off the field.

Next month, Sarr was scheduled to attend the African Cup of Nations, but that has since been called into question. After Spurs created multiple opportunities in the first half of the season, the 21-year-old scored his second goal of the year by dribbling the ball to create an angle outside of the Bournemouth area and then firing in a low shot. Oliver Skipp took his place soon after, though, and he was observed crying as he departed the field.

Sarr was comforted by Tottenham midfielder Bentancur and captain Son Heung-Min as he departed the pitch. In just over two weeks, he is scheduled to begin his nation’s AFCON defense when Aliou Cisse’s team plays.

Sarr had a little role in the Senegal squad that won the 2021 AFCON, but he was nonetheless a member of that team. Other than that, he was not utilized as a substitute, except for when they defeated Burkina Faso in the semifinals. He was expected to be a team mainstay and has already established himself as a regular in the lineup.

Spurs played the in-form Bournemouth team in north London, and the first half of the match was exciting, so this didn’t really affect them.Nevertheless, as Bentancur returned earlier than expected, the injury has broader ramifications for the team. Postecoglou remarked, “It’s super,” about having his indispensable master back.
