Jim Harbaugh, the head football coach at Michigan, just won his first national championship with the Wolverines, but he doesn’t seem to be celebrating.

The Atlanta Falcons revealed on January 16 that they had conducted interviews with Harbaugh and other possible candidates for their head coaching position. Just eight days have passed since Michigan’s 34-13 victory over Washington in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Since joining the Wolverines in 2015, Harbaugh has guided them to an overall 86-25 record. The new interview raises the question of whether Jim Harbaugh is prepared to rejoin the NFL, despite the widespread belief that he will remain a Wolverine until his retirement. Harbaugh was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers before taking the Michigan job; there, he lost to his brother John in the 2013 Super Bowl against the Baltimore Ravens.

After winning their first National Championship since 1997, the Wolverines are still in high spirits, but losing their cherished coach might dampen the party. As mentioned, Michigan need not worry, as the Falcons have conducted interviews with a number of possible players. But Ann Arbor would not be blind to the gap that Harbaugh’s departure will leave behind.
